Robert G. Johnston, 91, of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, September 23, 2026. His graveside service will be held Monday, September 28, 2026 at the Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Rd Charleston, SC at 11:00 am. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel.

Robert George Johnston, born in Monroe, Louisiana January 2, 1935, son of the late Marshall R. Johnson and the late Dora Broadway Johnston, and moved to Charleston, SC in 1955. Mr. Johnston lived a life marked by faithful service, steady work, and deep community involvement. He served as a member of the United States Air Force, on active duty and in the reserve, for 36 years before retiring in 1995. His long military commitment reflected a lasting dedication to his country. He also devoted 31 years of service to his civilian career, working for the Charleston Naval Shipyard and the Naval Missile Base before retiring in 1992. Alongside his professional and military service, he remained active in the life of his church and community. He was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, a Mason with Hammerton Lodge #332 in North Charleston, South Carolina, and a Gideon. Mr. Johnston was also well known for his involvement in square dancing. He belonged to several square dance clubs and gave generously of his time and leadership to that community. He served as a past chairman of the South Carolina Square & Round Dance Federation and was also honored as a member of its Hall of Fame. Robert G. Johnston will be remembered with respect for his years of service, his commitment to faith and fellowship, and the many ways he contributed to the communities of which he was a part. His life leaves a legacy of dedication, participation, and quiet accomplishment.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Scofield; children: Karen Chiles (Gene) of Suffolk, VA, and Robert M. Johnston (Cheryl) of Moncks Corner, SC; grandchildren: Janet, Adam, Marty, Brittany, Amber and Chelsea; great-grandchildren: Marissa, Nathan, Anna, Ella, Mckenzie, Tony, Bruce, Ariana, and Annabelle; Great great-grandchildren: Madalyn, Joshua, and Rylan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by first wife Melba Y. Sewell Johnston; grandson, Marshall Johnston; brother, Marshall R. Johnston, and two sisters.
