Robert Campbell Johnson, husband of Sallie Scott Small Johnson, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025 at his residence.
Robert was born on March 17, 1934, in Charleston, South Carolina, a son of the late Harry Locke Johnson and Eulalie Campbell Johnson.
He received his education at Baylor School and went on to graduate from The Citadel in 1956.
Robert joined Johnson & Johnson, Inc. in 1956, where he was a key member and owner, responsible for handling all commercial lines and property. His contributions were instrumental in setting up the E&S platforms which offered specialized coverage for businesses at the firm, and he became known as the face of J & J, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Robert was a member of The Carolina Yacht Club, where he served as Commodore in 1964, The Charleston Club, and the South Carolina Society. Additionally, he held memberships in The Ancient Artillery Society, The National Society of Colonial Wars in South Carolina, St. Philip's Church, Church of the Good Shepherd in Cashiers, NC, High Hampton Club, Yeaman's Hall Club, and The St. Cecilia Society.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Sallie Scott Small Johnson; his sons, Francis G. Johnson, Harry L. Johnson II (Caroline), and his daughter in law Mrs. Robert C Johnson Jr (Blair); and grandchildren: Francis G. Johnson, Jr. (Jamie), Sallie Scott J. Barrera (Sam), Harriet J. Hughes (Harrison), Elizabeth H. Johnson, Robert Campbell Johnson, III (Anne Darby), James Blair Johnson (Cecilia), Harry L. Johnson, III, and Peter Cordes P. Johnson; and grandfather of seven great-grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his sister, Barbara Johnson Baker (Archie), as well as brothers-in-law Robert S. Small, Jr., Charles I. Small, O. Johnson Small II, and sister-in-law Elizabeth H. S. Lipscomb. He leaves behind several beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Campbell Johnson, Jr., his daughter-in-law, Dicksie Gregorie Johnson, and his brother, Harry Locke Johnson Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Johnson Residence, 114 Live Oak Dr, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464. His funeral service will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM in St. Philip's Church, 142 Church St., Charleston, SC 29401.
