Robert Mazyck Burdell, III, 86, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, November 15, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016 in Saint James Church, 1872 Camp Road at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Saint James Churchyard. The family will receive friends Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Bobby was born March 2, 1930 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Robert Mazyck Burdell, Jr. and Agnes Vincent Burdell. He graduated from The Citadel, Class of 1952 and honorably served in the United States Air Force during Korea. He was a retired harbor pilot with Charleston Branch Pilots Association. Bobby was a senior member of the St. Andrew's Society, a Past Commodore of Charleston Yacht Club, a member of the James Island Yacht Club, the Propeller Club, a former member of the German Friendly Society, a past member of the Huguenot Society, the French Society, Sons of the Confederate Veterans, the Antique Outboard Motor Club, the American Legion, and Save the Light.
He is survived by his son, Robert M. Burdell, IV (Debbie) of Johns Island, SC; daughter, Cecelia Young King (Will) of Norfolk, VA; sister, Claudia Burdell FitzGerald of Charleston, SC; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Bobby was predeceased by his wife, Marie Watkins Burdell and his son, Malcolm Anthony Young, Jr. The family would like to thank Bobby's caregivers, Delores White, Shantay Bowman and Irene Portee for their loving care and devotion given to him over the past nine years. We will be forever grateful to them.
