Captain Robert Lawrence Bonifay, (Retired) of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest on April 3, 2012. The relatives and friends are invited to his funeral services at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, Monday, April 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m. in Beaufort National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Stuhr's one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Bonifay was born September 17, 1934, in Charleston, SC, the son of Oswald Lawrence Bonifay and Mildred Myrtle Wickert Bonifay. He served with the United States Marine Corps during Viet Nam and retired as Captain. His medals, commendations and citations include: National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Gold Star, Navy Achievement Medal with Gold Star and Combat "V", Meritorious Unit Commendation and Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation of Gallantry Cross with Palm. He retired as owner of Robert L. Bonifay Masonary Company.
He is survived by six children: Robert L. Bonifay, Jr. (Pamela) of Hanahan, SC, Cheryl L. Bonifay of Charleston, SC, Stephen L. Bonifay (Roz) of Dayton Beach, FL, Margaret Mosley White (Husband Keith White who will be taking our dad fishing while in Heaven) of Charleston, SC, Walter E. Bonifay (Cissy) of Charleston, SC, and Lee David Bonifay (Leslie) of Trabuco Canyon, CA;
12 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and the newest addition to the Bonifay family will be grandson, Dylan Lee Bonifay (Son of Lee and Leslie Bonifay) who is due May 20, 2012. With God in heaven, Chantelle Bonifay (daughter of Stephen Bonifay) will be her grandaddy's little angel.
