Robert "Bobby" James Babson, Sr., 79, of Charleston, South Carolina, went "home" on Wednesday, November 30, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 8, 2016, in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel at 4:00p.m. The family will receive friends in Stuhr's Downtown Chapel one hour prior to the service.
Bobby, born August 16, 1937 in Rock Hill, South Carolina, is the third son of the late Horace Lee Babson, Sr. and Cureth Gant Babson. He served in the United States Army and retired from the Charleston Naval Supply Center where he was a Budget Comptroller. He graduated from Chicora High School in 1957 and graduated from Baptist College. He attended Chapman University in Alameda, CA, and received a Master's Degree from Central Michigan University. He also attended Furman University and was a recipient of the Converse College Music Scholarship. He was a member of the Furman Singers, and was an active member of several Charleston church choirs.
Bobby loved Citadel football and the Charleston Riverdogs and enjoyed chocolate covered cherries. The children in the Brentwood neighborhood always loved July 4th, because Bobby spared no expense in firecrackers and bottle rockets. His favorite song to sing was "The Holy City."
He was predeceased by his two brothers, Horace Lee "H.L." Babson, Jr. and Scott H. Babson. He is survived by his two sons, Rocky J. Babson, Jr of Atlanta, GA and Prague, Czech Republic and Marc Edward Allan Babson of Prague, Czech Republic: four grandchildren, Anastasia Snyder, Victoria Snyder, Luke Allan Babson, and Matthew Lee Babson.
