Benton, 84, of North Charleston, SC, died at his son's home Monday, December 1, 2014 in Lawrenceville, GA. His funeral service will be held Friday, December 5, 2014 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Dorchester Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel. Bob was born June 29, 1930 in Athens, GA, son of the late Abb Pittman Benton and the late Lou Emma Benton. Bob was an Air Force veteran Crew Chief and Flight Engineer. He was the owner of A1 Muffler and Brake on Dorchester Road for eleven years and Benton's Exxon on Rutledge Avenue for 23 years in Charleston, SC. He was a 32 degree Mason with Orange-CharlesTowne Lodge #14 and a member of the Omar Shrine Temple. Bob loved the Lord and attended Westview Baptist Church in North Charleston.He is survived by three sons: Dan Streuber of Lawrenceville, GA, Mike Streuber of Summerville, SC and Greg Streuber of Stanfield, NC; daughter, Wanda Furlong of Knoxville, TN; sister, Lillian Sanders of Athens, GA; eleven grandchildren: Crystal Garrick of Evans, GA, Jared Streuber of Hickory, NC, Dillon Streuber of Stanfield, NC, Benton Streuber and Andrew Streuber both of Lawrenceville, GA, Evangeline Furlong of Knoxville, TN, Matt Barfield and Anna Barfield both of Lawrenceville, GA, Frankie Sanabria of Jacksonville, FL, Heather Ridenhour and Holli Ridenhour both of Albemarle, NC; four great-grandchildren: Connor Garrick and Amelia Garrick both of Evans, GA, Sayler Streuber and Carson Powell both of Hickory, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 36 years, Betty Sue Benton; and sister, Marcelle Burdette.Bob is loved by friends and family, and he will be dearly missed.
