Dr. Robert Edgar Bennett passed away at his home with his family by his side on Friday afternoon, February 24, 2012. He was a longtime resident of Johns Island and husband of Beverly Culler Bennett. The relatives and friends of Dr. and Mrs. Robert E. Bennett are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, Sunday, February 26, 2012 at St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Church, 3225 Ashley River Road, at 2 pm with Committal Services following in Memorial Park Cemetery, North Broughton Street, Orangeburg. The family will receive friends this Saturday between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway.
Dr. Bennett was born May 20, 1927 in Orangeburg, SC, son of the late James Bennett, Sr. and the late Vesta Summers Bennett. He was a retired chiropractor from his practice, Bennett Chiropractic. He was a member of St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Church, member of North Charleston Rotary, Exchange Club, West Ashley Jaycees and the South Carolina Chiropractor Association, where he was inducted into the South Carolina Chiropractor Hall of Fame in 2006. He was very much a pioneer for chiropractic profession in the state of South Carolina. Dr. Bennett was also a certified auctioneer, which gave him the title Colonel Bob Bennett.
Surviving are his wife Beverly Bennett of Johns Island; two sons, Robert Edgar Bennett, Jr. of Johns Island, Dr. Timothy Culler Bennett and his wife Teri of Johns Island; a daughter, Brenda Bennett Puckhaber and her husband Colin of Walterboro. He is also survived and known as "PaPa" to four grandchildren, Christopher Puckhaber, Culler Bennett, Rhen Bennett, Robert Bennett, III; and two great grandchildren, Carley and Chloe Puckhaber.
