Rita Lorraine Morton, 62, of North Charleston, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 15, 2017. Her Homegoing service will be held Thursday, April 20, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. with a brief viewing from 8:30-8:45 a.m. in Calvary Lutheran Church, 1400 Manor Boulevard, Charleston. Interment will follow at Beaufort National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. A potluck reception will be at Rita's home, 8508 Sutton Place, North Charleston, SC, 29420 Thursday at 6:00 p.m. The visitation and viewing will be held Wednesday, April 19 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road.
Rita was born July 11, 1954 in Erie, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Burdette Everett Egli and the late Mary Louise Artello Egli. She made banners for churches and private homes around the world for 28 years. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Rita enjoyed gardening, serving food at her church to the homeless, and visiting the elderly in nursing homes. She was also a board game and card playing enthusiast.
She is survived by four children: Bridgette Ellis of North Charleston, SC; Blake Basansky of Canton, GA; Douglas Morton of Catonsville, MD; Ashleigh Morris of Summerville, SC; four siblings: Melody Irvin of Richmond, TX; Leslie Egli of Albion, PA; Marilee Egli of Richmond, TX; Renee Pfeil of Fullerton, CA; six grandchildren: Andrew Burton, Madison Basansky, Farrah Basansky, Acen Morris, Eli Morris, and Riley Basansky. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Bruce "Jody" Morton, the love of her life.
