Rita McKerley Lang, 86, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, widow of Dr. W. Steve Lang, Jr., died Tuesday, March 7, 2017. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017 in the Palmetto Presbyterian Church, 1720 Carolina Park Blvd. at 1:00 p.m. Interment, Middleton Memorial Cemetery, Ludowici, GA. The family will receive friends at their home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and at the church following the service. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Rita was born October 11, 1930 in Savannah, Georgia, daughter of the late Jennings Bryan McKerley and the late Elwin Hollingworth McKerley Kinney. She graduated from Duke University and had a teaching career spanning over 40 years. Rita retired from Greenville Technical College. She was a longtime member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church in Greenville, SC, a life member of Presbyterian Women, and an elder in the PC(USA). Rita was a lifetime Girl Scout and volunteered her time in many community outreach programs, especially Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity.
She is survived by her children, William Steve Lang III (Debbie) of Clearwater, FL, James Michael Lang (Rhonda) of Trinity, NC; Nancy Lang Tye (Marc) of Mount Pleasant, SC; Paul Hollingworth Lang (Sarah) of Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Kevin Tye (Nicole), Daniel Lang, Andrew Tye, William Tye, and Benjamin Lang; a great-granddaughter, Lily Tye; her brother, John Kinney; and her sister, Star Kinney Land.
Rita was preceded in death by her brother, Wesley E. Kinney.
