Riddick Craven, Jr.

Riddick Craven, Jr. of North Charleston passed into eternal rest surrounded by his family Saturday, May 27th, 2023. Born in Walterboro, SC, in 1948, Riddick served in the US Army from 1967-1969, where he was assigned to Echo Co. 2/5th 1st Air Calvary. For his service and bravery in Vietnam, he was awarded The National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, Air Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device Bronze Service Medal. Riddick was wounded in battle but returned home safely from Vietnam; he was loved and respected by all the men who served with him. Riddick earned the rank of Sergeant before leaving the Army with an Honorable Discharge. He returned home to Charleston, where he joyed fishing and riding horses. He retired in 2015 after 30 years of service as a Heavy Equipment Operator at Joint Base Charleston (Naval Weapons Station).

He is survived by the love of his life and wife of forty-eight years, Barbara Craven. His mother-in-law Barbara Owens (Tyrus, deceased) of North Charleston. His two sons Christopher Craven (Sarah) of Summerville, SC, and Daniel Craven (Valerie) of Moncks Corner, SC. Five grandchildren Jonathan, Abigail, Shiloh, Madelyn (Maddie), and Luke. Two sisters Conniel Woods (Colin, deceased) of Ravenel, SC, and Jean Hyson (Ron) of Virginia Beach, VA. Brother-in-law Brian Owens (Linda) of North Charleston, Five Nephews, and many great nieces and nephews. His parents, Riddick and Emmagene Craven of Charleston, preceded him in death.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 11:00 am at Church of the Resurrection, 5103 North Rhett Ave, North Charleston. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Church of the Resurrection, North Charleston, St. Thomas Episcopal Church North Charleston, or the Charleston - Ralph Johnson VAMC Homeless Veteran Program.
