Richards Chesterfield Lewis, Jr., 77, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Susan Gordon Lewis, died peacefully Thursday, March 21, 2019. His Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2019, in St. Michael's Church, 71 Broad Street at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Rich was born November 24, 1941, in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Richards Chesterfield Lewis and Gabriella Ravenel Parker Lewis. He graduated from the University of Virginia, Class of 1964 and served in the United States Army. Rich was an investment advisor, retiring from Morgan Stanley. He was a vestry member and treasurer for many years at St. Michael's Church. He was also active in the Carolina Yacht Club, the Huguenot Society, the South Carolina Society, and the St. Andrew's Society.
Rich will be remembered as a kind, principled gentleman with a great sense of humor. He loved shrimping the creeks and gathering with family and friends at his summer house on the creek.
He is survived by his wife, Susan of Charleston, SC and niece, Susan Gordon Sheffield of Raleigh, NC; two sisters: Gabriella Lewis Brown (Alton) of Charleston, SC, and Ellen Lewis Watson (Donald) of Dartmouth, MA; nieces and nephews: Alton Grady Brown III (Elizabeth), Peter Horrÿ Brown, Gabriella Ravenel Andrews (David), Nathaniel Fairfield Watson (Elenora), and Caroline Frost Watson (Geir).
