Richard Eugene Wheeler

Richard Eugene Wheeler, Jr., 81, of Hanahan, S.C., died Monday, October 4, 2010, at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, Georgia.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, October 7, 2010, in J. HENRY STUHR, NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, N. Charleston, SC 29406. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery  The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service.

Born January 12, 1929 in Charleston, S.C., he was the son of the late Richard E. Wheeler, Sr. and Katie Smoak Wheeler.  He was a retired masonry contractor and formerly operated Wheeler's Texaco in Hanahan, S.C.  He was a member of Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church in Hanahan.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy W. Powers. Survivors include his wife, Joan Carol Spain Wheeler of Hanahan, S.C.; one son, Richard Eugene Wheeler III and wife Patti of Moultrie, Ga.; two grandchildren, Richard E. Wheeler IV of Conway, S.C. and Cenith Joan Wheeler of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one brother, James L. Wheeler and wife Carolyn of James Island, S.C.; three sisters, Daphne W. Stephen, Betty W. Anderson and Edith W. Doyle, all of Charleston, S.C.; several nieces and nephews.
