With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Richard Moore, born on March 21, 1957, passed away on August 1, 2026, at the age of 69.

Richard was born in Tennessee and raised in Winnsboro, South Carolina, where he developed a lifelong love of sports, family, and the outdoors. At Winnsboro High School, he excelled in both football and baseball, playing quarterback and defense alongside his older brother, Skip. He chose to continue his athletic career by playing baseball at Spartanburg Methodist College before graduating from the University of South Carolina in 1978.

Richard’s love of golf began as a teenager playing with his father at Fairfield Country Club in Winnsboro. Those Saturday morning rounds with his dad became treasured memories and sparked a passion for the game that stayed with him throughout his life.

After graduating from USC, Richard began his career with Milliken in Hartsville before returning to Winnsboro to work for Uniroyal. He later joined Mass Mutual, where he built a successful career before he and Polly took a leap of faith to pursue their dream of owning a business together.

For 40 wonderful years, Richard shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Polly. Together they built a family rooted in love and a business founded on integrity and genuine care for others. They opened the doors to Polly’s Fine Jewelry in 1986. What began as a single family-owned store grew into multiple locations over the years, but Richard never lost sight of what mattered most. Alongside Polly, he helped create more than a jewelry store - he built a place where customers became friends, employees became family, and life’s most meaningful moments were celebrated. He believed in treating every person with kindness, respect, and fairness, and his quiet leadership left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Those who knew Richard will remember his easygoing spirit, quick wit, and unmistakable sense of humor. He had a way of making people laugh without ever trying too hard, and his calm, steady presence put others at ease. Whether he was sharing a joke or simply enjoying the company of family and friends, Richard had a gift for making every moment feel a little lighter.

Outside of work, Richard found joy on the golf course, out on the water fishing, and spending time with the people he loved most. As a proud member of Bulls Bay Golf Club, he treasured the friendships he made there and the countless rounds shared with friends. Some of his happiest years were spent raising his family on the Isle of Palms, coaching youth sports, traveling to junior golf tournaments and cheerleading competitions, enjoying family ski trips, and making lifelong memories together. At home, he was rarely far from his beloved dogs, Garnet and Harbour, who brought him constant companionship and joy. Richard cherished life’s simple pleasures and believed the best memories were made together.

Above all, Richard was a family man. He was a loving husband, a proud father, and a grandfather who could always be counted on for a laugh, a smile, and a story. His greatest happiness came from watching his family grow. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the business he helped build, and the countless lives he touched through his generosity, humility, humor, and love.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Polly Moore; his daughter, Kristin Moore Epstein, and her husband, Steven Epstein; his son, Caulder Moore, and his wife, Lizzy Moore; his seven grandchildren, Briggs Epstein, Keller Grace Epstein, Brady Epstein, Klara Mills Epstein, McCrae Moore, Sutton Moore, and Caulder Moore Jr.; his brother, Robert Moore, and his family; his brother-in-law, Brunson Loadholt, and his family; as well as many extended family members, dear friends, and the Polly’s Fine Jewelry family who will forever be grateful for his life and example.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Moore and Grace Moore; his brothers, Skip Moore and Michael Moore; and his beloved son, Jackson Moore. While his family grieves his absence, they find comfort in knowing he is at peace and reunited with his loved ones.

A private graveside service will be held.
