Richard Allen Slack, 74, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, entered eternal rest Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in the Wando River dream home he designed and built, three days following his and Linda’s 50th anniversary. His memorial service will be held March 21st at 10:00a.m. at Mepkin Abbey’s Columbarium (1098 Mepkin Abbey Road, Moncks Corner), followed by a reception on the Abbey grounds.

Born July 19, 1951, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Bruce and Vera Belle Slack, Richard always credited his mother as his greatest champion. Richard deeply valued the time spent sharing his home with Bruce and his spiritual wife, Dolly Mauzy, during Bruce’s final years.

A proud Boilermaker, Richard earned a civil engineering degree from Purdue in 1973, launching a 34-year career with Amoco (later BP). In 1976, Richard married Linda Christine Phillips in Jamestown, NY. His professional journey took them to St. Louis, Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Hong Kong, Charleston, Seoul, and Taipei, raising a family along the way. Across the globe, Richard was known not just for his managerial acumen but for the deep respect he held for his colleagues, many of whom remained cherished lifelong friends.

Richard’s heart led him and Linda back to South Carolina’s Lowcountry, where he applied his talents in extensive service to the board of the Dunes West Property Owners Association. In his later years, he found immense joy in his role as a grandfather. His last year of life provided a rich set of memories for his family and friends, including travel in Asia, Europe, and Upstate New York, and a gathering of 19 Slacks this past Thanksgiving.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; daughter Alyson Christine Slack (Aaron Pacitti) of Cambridge NY; son Mark Winfield Slack (Lauryn) and grandson Jonas Harley Slack of Taipei, Taiwan; brother Brian L. Slack (Anne) of Peachtree Corners, GA; and brother-in-law Henry Martin of Bluffton, SC. He was preceded in death by his sister Virginia “Ginny” Martin and by Dolly.

Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting www.jhenrystuhr.com Memorials may be made to the Center for Birds of Prey, Tunnels to Towers, or Meals on Wheels organization of the donor's choice.
