Richard Frank Schmitt

January 1, 1968 — August 14, 2021

Richard Frank Schmitt II entered into eternal rest Saturday, August 14th, 2021. There will be a celebration of life scheduled for a later date.

Rich was born January 1st, 1968 in Louisville, Kentucky, son of the late Richard Frank Schmitt and the late Dolores Straub Burd. He spent most of his young life growing up in Kentucky. Rich was an avid athlete who enjoyed playing baseball, softball and golf. He graduated from Oldham County High School in Kentucky in 1986. Voted "best looking" in his senior yearbook.

Rich owned a professional painting company since the early 1990's, Schmitt Coatings, Inc. He loved the outdoors and lived on a secluded property surrounded by the Francis Marion National Forest with a large stocked pond. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, dirt biking and tinkering on his old Jeep. He was passionate about golf and loved to watch his favorite football team, the Minnesota Vikings, the "purple people eaters".

Above all else, he loved spending time with his children. His favorite times were spent on the Wando River fishing with his son and exploring the creeks in Huger. He also spent hours outside with his daughter enjoying the beauty of nature. One of their pastimes was watching Charlie Brown cartoons.

Rich was a big, strapping man with a generous heart. His smile would light up a room and his unique laugh was hard to forget. Rich touched many people's lives and always went above and beyond to help others. Over the years his many customers valued his dedication, professionalism and the extra mile he would go for them. He will be missed by his loving family and many friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Marie Schmitt and son, Travis Richard Schmitt, both of Charleston, SC; sister, Julie Lynn Smith, of Mount Pleasant, SC; as well as his step-father, Pete Burd; step-siblings, Greg Burd, Lawrence Burd, Vicky Fillingim, and Rhonda Klussmann; step-mother, Sandy Schmitt; step-sisters, Lisa Ellison and Alaina Ciresi; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jennifer Ann Schmitt; and his step-sister, Sandra Stark.
