Richard Buddy Propps

June 20, 1930 — March 28, 2011

PO1 Richard Buddy Propps, US Navy, Ret., 80, a longtime resident of Goose Creek, SC, died Monday, March 28, 2011, in the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro, SC.


Born June 20, 1930 in Fort Smith, AR he was one of two children of Richard Propps and Pearl Herndon Propps.  His 20 year career in the military included serving in the Korean War where he was a POW. Mr. Propps also retired after 20 years as a civil servant at the Charleston Naval Shipyard.  He was a member of La Candeur Lodge #36 AFM now Mariner No. 2 and a life member of the US Bowling Congress.   


Mr. Propps is survived by his wife of 24 years, Margaret "Dottie" Propps of Ladson, SC; daughters, Christine Colbourne of Fayetteville, NC, Deborah Propps and Caroline Propps both of Missouri; Deborah Baldwin and her husband Scott of Ladson, SC; son, Salvatore Musso of Halthom, TX and Christine Hayes of Goose Creek, SC; ten grandchildren:  Stacey, Stephen, Christy, Ryan, Ashleigh, Shayla, Justin, Marissa, Jasmine, and "Hopalong" Kassidy; and two great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lawrence Propps.


The funeral service will be held in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, Friday, April 1, 2011 at 2:00 PM.  Entombment with military honors will follow in Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum.  The family will receive friends in Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel Thursday March 31, 2011 between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm.


In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hospice of SC, 110 Dillon Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
