Richard Lee Owenby

Richard Lee Owenby, 74, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014.

A native of Candler, NC, he was the son of the late Alvin Buster Owenby and Margie Owenby Edwards and was predeceased by his wife, Pearl H. Owenby, and brother, Robert A. Owenby. Mr. Owenby was a member of First Baptist Church, Mt. Pleasant, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and retired Post Master for the U.S. Postal Service.

Mr. Owenby is survived by his wife, Shirley Bailey Owenby; daughter, Diana O. Johnson of Portsmouth, VA; son, Darrell L. Owenby and wife, Michelle, of Sullivan's Island, SC; brother, Woody Owenby and wife, Audrey, of Leicester, NC; four grandsons, Jeffrey T. Johnson and wife, Heather, Bryan R. Johnson and wife, Brittany, Nate and Noah Owenby; great-grandchildren, Blake and Savannah Johnson; three step-children, Laurie Ponder, Jon Bailey and Marc Bailey; eight step-grandchildren and special friend, Janice Ketner, and numerous nieces, nephews, brother and sister-in-laws and friends.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2014, in First Baptist Church, Mount Pleasant, by the Rev. Dr. Ron Dillon and Rev. Dr. Charles Hook, burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
