Richard was born December 1, 1965 in Columbia, South Carolina, son of the late John Monroe Mintz and Margaret Aaron Mintz. He was a devoted father and husband. He was an avid reader, with a voracious appetite for learning, and teaching. He made everyone around him feel loved and important. The simplest pleasures in life made him so happy, especially being outdoors. He was perfectly content to be still, and with his thoughts; ever pensive, ever grateful, ever loved. Rick's warmth, wisdom, and the joy he brought to our lives will be deeply missed, and forever cherished. His was a life well-lived and a legacy that will continue to inspire.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Isla Mintz and Zoe Mintz; Mother in law, Peggy McElhiney; father-in-law, Jamie McElhiney; brother-in-law, James (Halie) McElhiney; sister-in-law, Kelley (Markus) Esslinger; and many cousins, aunts, and uncles.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his sister, Debbie Mintz.
