Richard Robert Link, 95, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Saturday, March 1, 2025.
The Patriarch has passed. Supporting and guiding three generations, he will be missed. Richard Robert Link was born May 9, 1929. His parents Richard and Rose Link immigrated from Germany in the early 1900's. Growing up in Ridgewood, Queens he developed a staunch work ethic and love for baseball. Working since an early age, first at an ice cream parlor and then in the mail room of Marine Midland Bank in Manhattan. While working during the day he completed his finance degree from Baruch College. After serving two years in the US Army, he then went back to the bank and 45 years later he retired as Senior Vice President and Controller.
While working at the bank, during a softball game as second baseman he met the love of his life Evelyn Yonkus. Together they had three children; Rick (Katie), Kathy (John) and Don (Kim).
Known to their friends as Dick and Ev, they spent the rest of their lives together. Together they shared a bond and dedication to one another that served as their ultimate priority.
Retiring in 1989, Dick and Ev moved to Snee Farm in Mt. Pleasant following a group of friends from New York. This is where their grandchildren made loving memories of Granma and Granpa, learning to play golf, enjoying golf cart rides, playing cards and very competitive board games. (Sean, Melissa, Christopher, Tim and Sydney).
An avid golfer, he enjoyed the game till he could no longer play. For better or worse, his enthusiasm for sports lay with the New York Giants and the New York Mets. At 95, as his body slowly succumbed to age, his mind stayed sharp and still remains the sharpest tool in the shed. The Link family will be forever grateful to the fine ladies with Be Well who cared for him so tenderly. Take care Dad. We love you and thank you.
His Funeral Service will be held Sunday, March 9, 2025, in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 2:00 pm. Entombment to follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to ECCO, 1145 Six Mile Rd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466 or Wounded Warriors, 4899 Belfort Rd., Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
