Richard Joseph Kmetz

Richard Joseph Kmetz, 94, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Hilda Peeples Joy Kmetz, entered into eternal rest Thursday, November 10, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 14, 2016, in James Island Baptist Church, 2023 Wappoo Drive, at 2:00 p.m. Interment, Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Richard was born December 25, 1921 in Palatka, Florida, son of the late Andrew E. Kmetz and Anna Elias Kmetz. Richard served in the Army Air Corp during WWII and was a Navy veteran of Korea. He was retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard and was a salesman for Haddrells Point Tackle for 25 years. Mr. Kmetz was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Past Master of Dorchester Lodge 369, and was a member of the Order of the Easter Star. Richard was a former member of Dorchester Waylyn Baptist Church for fifty years and was a current member of James Island Baptist Church.

He is survived by his step-sons: Joseph E. Joy of Charleston, SC, and Billy S. Joy of Bonneau Beach, SC; daughter, Patricia Turner of Manchester, GA; 16 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
