Richard Earl King, Sr., 86, of Charleston, South Carolina, dedicated husband, father and friend, entered into eternal rest to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.
Richard was born October 17, 1936 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late John Edwin King and Annie Puckhaber King.
Richard was the Lab Instrumentation Specialist in the department of physiology at MUSC for 37 before he retired in 1993. Through the years he enjoyed fishing, fixing cars, and tinkering with his hands. He loved being in his workshop in his garage and working at whatever needed repair or fabricating special research equipment to assist with labs at MUSC.
Richard was a member, for many years, of the Elks Club and was past entertainment director at the Sea Island Yacht Club where he flipped burgers each year for the Rockville Regatta.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Mullinax King, his sister, Francis King Cammer, and his brother, John Edwin (Eddie) King.
Richard is survived by his children: Robin King Murray (Tommy), Shari King Wise (Robert), Wendy King Little (Rick) and Richard E. King Jr. (Martha); three grandchildren: Tucker Lee Little, Katherine Wise Erickson, and William Thomas Murray; four great grandchildren: Leland Erickson, Reese Erickson, Morgan Murray and Will Murray; and his faithful sidekick, Smokey, his beautiful cat that decided his was the house in the neighborhood to make home.
His family would like to extend a special thanks to the dedicated MSICU staff at MUSC for the care he received and the kindness shown the family.
The family will receive friends Friday, December 2, 2022 in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
