Richard Lawrence Full

Richard Lawrence Full, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on January 23, 2025 at 96 years of age. Richard was born on October 12, 1928, in Braddock, Pennsylvania to Lawrence Full and Hazel Lang Full. Richard was a devoted family man, respected community member and proud World War II veteran.

Richard met the love of his life, Dolores Anne Full, at a sock hop in Braddock, Pennsylvania in 1950. They were married September 15, 1951. His love and devotion to her lasted a lifetime and continued long past her death on February 8, 2005.

A World War II veteran, Richard proudly served in the United States Army. He demonstrated commitment and bravery during his time of service.

After Richard’s military service, he returned to his hometown and attended the University of Pittsburgh where he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering.

Richard embarked on a long and fruitful career with AT&T for 40 years, where he made lasting contributions and cherished friendships. His professional journey was just one aspect of his multifaceted life. After retirement from AT&T, Richard relocated to Mount Pleasant, SC to be close to his family. In retirement, Richard remained active in his community and church.

Richard was a devout Catholic throughout his life. Richard took many trips in his lifetime, but his most cherished trip was to Jerusalem with his wife where they followed in Jesus’ footsteps among many sacred places including the Jordan River. Richard was active in many parishes as he moved throughout his career, serving as an Eucharistic minister. Most recently, Richard was a parishioner at Christ Our King Catholic Church for the last 25 years.

Of all Richard’s life’s accomplishments, he was most proud of his family. Richard cared deeply for his daughter, Kelley Elizabeth Thorpe and spent his life devoted to ensuring her happiness. Richard’s life was deeply enriched by the unwavering devotion of his daughter, Kelley and her husband David Alan Thorpe. From childhood to adulthood, Kelley cherished her father as her hero. She often spoke of his wisdom, kindness and the countless life lessons he imparted. Kelley, with the loving support of Dave, devoted herself to caring for her father in his later years, ensuring he was surrounded by love and comfort. Their bond was a testament to the strength of family ties and the power of a daughter’s love.

Richard, lovingly called Poppy, was a proud grandfather to Jonathan David Sozio (Chandler), Jessica Elizabeth Apple (Joe) and Natalie Elizabeth Thorpe. Richard was ever-present daily in their lives enjoying the normal every day routines to attending numerous school functions and sports activities. Poppy was always smiling and enjoying all moments with his grandchildren whether big or small. As time passed, Richard became a great-grandfather and was blessed with three great-grandsons: Caleb Joseph Apple, Charles David Apple, and Carter Richard Apple. Their laughter and presence were sources of immense joy for him, as Richard embraced each moment spent with his growing family.

During the last year of his life, Richard resided at The Palms of Mount Pleasant where he enjoyed a very active social life. Richard enjoyed bingo and was often called the Bingo King. He enjoyed praying the “Rosary with Alice”, Bible Study, Travel Logs, numerous Happy Hours, where his choice of drink was ginger ale, and the occasional flower arranging. Richard always sported a smile as he made his way throughout the facility from activities to the dining room. Richard was dearly loved by residents and staff throughout the facility, from the daily caregivers, to his therapists and the restaurant staff. Richard’s family is deeply appreciative of all his caregivers who dedicated many hours to ensuring his happiness and well-being.

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores Full, his parents, Lawrence Full and Hazel Lang Full, as well as his siblings Rita Mae Schwartz, Pauline Catherine Hughes, Donald Edward Full (an infant), Paul Anthony Full, and Lawrence Joseph Full. Their memories remain intertwined with the paths he paved and the love he shared with his family.

Richard's passing will be honored on Thursday, January 30, 2025 with a Mass of Christian Burial at Stella Maris Catholic Church, 1204 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island, SC 29482 at 10:30 a.m. Following the mass, Richard will be laid to rest at Mt.
