Richard Davidson, Jr.

December 30, 1929 — May 4, 2014

Richard Davidson, Jr. entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the age of 84. He passed away from complications from diabetes and congestive heart failure. He suffered an epic battle with his health over a 10 year period. Richard was born December 30, 1929 in Norwood, Massachusetts and is the son of the late Richard Davidson, Sr. and Eugenia Elmgren Davidson.

It is very difficult to summarize a persons life in just a few paragraphs. Above all Richard Davidson stood for getting the job done right, truth, justice and the American way. Having lived a very full life, he worked right up into his 70's when arthritis and illness took its toll. Mr. Davidson was a member of the International Church of God, Charleston, SC, The Gold Wing Road Riders, the NRA, Christian Men's Motorcycle Outreach Group and The American Legion post 77. He spent many hours volunteering for the Salvation Army and gave freely of his time and talents.

Mr. Davidson was an educated man holding his Bachelor's degree from Morrisville College in gyro instrument engineering technology, Master's Degree from the University of Rhode Island in Horticulture and a minor in ballistics and had started Doctoral studies at the University of Maine in trending and statistics. He valued the educated mind and thrived on political discussions.

The first job ever held by Mr. Davidson was that of a private seaman on private yachts when he was 15 years of age. The last job that he held was Treasurer for the Peter Schwartz Christian Radio station PC4. There were 35 other positions he held in his lifetime. The jobs that he loved were working with his dad and brother at the IGA grocery store chain that Richard Davidson Sr. founded, Dr. Harrison Crime Lab Division published legal writer, New England Regional Commission in the early 1970's which was a think tank that explored Unique Areas of Study, Universal Health Care and bio fuels to curb the US dependence on foreign oil and lastly Pratt and Whitney working on experimental construction of new aircraft.

Richard Davidson was a proud veteran and had served in the Navy as a sonar technician then as a corpsman, which was fodder for many hilarious stories. Later in the 1980's he served in the US Merchant Marines Military Sealift Command as a food handler, stewards, ship's electrician and medical officer. When this ship broke and was shipped to Japan, he met his second wife Cindy Lee Davidson. He believed in doing his duty and tried to leave this world a better place.

He leaves behind a son, Andrew Davidson (Emma) of Pembroke Pines FL; a daughter, Lisa Bachan (Winston) of Charleston, SC; three step-children: Chi Shein Lee (Tracy) of Boston, MA; Chi Kang Lee and Chi Tzin "Frank" Lee (Samanda) of Taiwan; a brother, William Davidson of Newport Richey, FL. He proudly claims Victoria Bachan, Zoe Lee and Richard Davidson Chen as his grandchildren. He warmly acknowledges William Martin of Nashua, New Hampshire, Geoff Martin of San Diego. He also leaves behind his former wife and mother of his children, Margaret Heller of Charleston, SC. Also in Mr. Davidson's life was someone who he has missed dearly, Cindy Davidson. Mr. Davidson was loved and cherished by many friends, neighbors and relatives.

Mr. Davidson will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill, CT with military honors and a service to be held at the International Church of God, 1560 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends Saturday at International Church of God from 10:00 am until time of service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway.
