Richard "Dick" Furman Childress, 85, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Carolyn Hough Childress died Friday, January 13, 2017.
His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in the Hibben United Methodist Church, 690 Coleman Boulevard at 12:00 p.m. Interment, Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. Mount Pleasant CHAPEL.
Richard was born December 10, 1931 in Pickens, South Carolina, son of the late Columbus Eugene Childress and the late Addie Floride Field Childress. After he graduated from Pickens High School, he entered the US Air Force and served during the Korean War. He began his career in management for Ever-Need Merchandise Service, Inc. in Greenville, SC then went into management as Vice President of Alexander's, Inc. of Greenwood, SC. Richard retired from his own digital sign business, Media Tronics. He was an avid football enthusiast and major Clemson Tiger fan.
In addition to his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by children, Ted Childress, Tim Childress (Laura), Tara Murphy (Billy); his grandchildren, Ashley, Meghan, Grant (Kirsten), Amanda, and William; and his sister, Earline Shabkie.
