Richard William "Bill" Blocker, 88, of North Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Elizabeth Denton Blocker, entered into eternal rest Thursday, February 6, 2014. His funeral services will be held Monday, February 10, 2014, in Doorway Baptist Church, 7825 Dorchester Road at 2:00 p.m. Interment, Riverview Memorial Park with Military Honors. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway.
Bill was born April 3, 1925 in Walterboro, South Carolina, son of the late Reverend Ernest Duncan Blocker and Addie Hiott Blocker. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps as a Combat Medic during World War II and was a Technical Sergeant. He was a retired General Foreman with the Charleston Naval Shipyard and retired from Haddrell's Point of West Ashley. Richard was a member of Doorway Baptist Church for over 67 years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years of North Charleston, SC; daughter, Jane B. Barber (Alan) of North Charleston, SC; son, Richard W. Blocker, Jr. (Aggie) of Midlothian, VA; brothers, Charles T. Blocker (Miriam) of Walterboro, SC, David L. Blocker (Janis) of Round O, SC; sisters, Jean B. Lewis (Tom) of Sanford, FL, Joyce B. Chaplin of Walterboro, SC and an aunt, Ann Seignious of Charleston, SC. He was blessed with five grandchildren, Kerri Ann East, Rebecca Lynn Gizzi, Bryan Richard Blocker, Brad William Blocker, James William Roe; and five great-grandchildren.
