Richard J. Boynton of Charleston, South Carolina, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on May 23, 1944, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Richard was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Davis Boynton. He attended the Milwaukee University School and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Accounting. He continued his education with an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduation he married Elaine Schantz and moved to Madison, Wisconsin to continue his education at the University of Wisconsin Law, graduating with a Juris Doctorate. They were blessed with a daughter, Alison, in 1970.

Immediately after law school, he began work as a corporate lawyer in Chicago, Illinois. He later joined the legal team at Federated Department Stores in Cincinnati, Ohio, specializing in product safety and real estate acquisitions. After leaving Federated, he purchased a small business and continued to manage it until his retirement in 2015. His first wife Elaine passed away after 31 years of marriage in 1997. He married Pamela Lee of Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1998.

Richard is survived by his wife, Pamela Boynton of Charleston; daughter, Alison Ledbetter (Tracy) of Nashville, Tennessee; step-daughters, Emory Lee (Annie) of New York City, Morgan Lee Romeo (Christopher) of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Sarah and Olivia Ledbetter of Nashville; step-grandchildren, Charlie Romeo, Stella Romeo and Oliver Romeo, all of Charleston, and Thea Greengard of New York City; and sisters, Jackie Boynton of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Susan Boynton of Tacoma Washington.

Richard lived an exemplary life, he loved family, gardening, opera, Pink Floyd, travel and reading. He was loved by all who knew him.

His family will gather privately to celebrate his life in Charleston and at a later date in Cincinnati, Ohio for family and friends. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Charleston, SC.
