Raynald Marcel Ross, 81 of Mount Pleasant, SC, passed away peacefully at home on December, 29, 2023. Beloved husband of Claudette Ross, Ray was born on December, 8, 1942 in Biddeford, Maine to Marcel and Marie-Jean Ross.
Ray was a longtime resident of Connecticut prior to moving to Mount Pleasant in 2004. He was employed for 44 years at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft prior to his retirement. He later worked at Home Depot and Lowes where he made many friends and helped people.
Ray’s community service was prodigious and spanned most of his life. Whether it was running the bingo at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, coaching Little League, acting as Eucharistic Minister or simply helping those in need, he never failed to rise to the occasion when needed. His woodworking skills were vast. He loved to make small gifts for people and send or give them spontaneously. He particularly loved his time spent as a volunteer on the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant where he met people from all over the world.
A skilled outdoorsman, Ray loved crabbing and fishing and would often spend his days that way in retirement, sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and family at the dinner table.
Ray leaves the love of his life, his wife, Claudette Ross, to whom he was devoted until his last breath. He also leaves his children, William Ross (Lynda Schillace) of Columbia, CT and Michelle Czarnecki (Eric Czarnecki) of Mount Pleasant, SC.
He also leaves four grandchildren, whom he cherished, Sarah Czarnecki, Amanda Ross, Madeline Ross and his “favorite grandson” Andrew Czarnecki. He was so proud of them and loved them tremendously.
A lifelong, devout Catholic who truly lived his faith, it is fitting that we will celebrate Ray’s life with a funeral mass. The mass will take place on January 26th at 10:30a.m. at Stella Maris Catholic Church, 1204 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island, SC. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, a small donation to the American Cancer society in his name or a simple act of kindness to a neighbor would honor Ray best. He would like that.
