Rev. Daniel Evanda Johnston, Sr., 90, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, beloved husband of Virginia Evans Johnston, entered eternal rest on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the home of his son, Danny, in Pahrump, NV. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026, 3:00 PM. at J. Henry Stuhr, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd., Mt. Pleasant, SC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Born July 20, 1935, in Manchester, Sumter County, South Carolina, Rev. Daniel Johnston was the beloved son of the late Arthur O'Donnell Johnston and the late Edith Rodgers Johnston. He was one of the last children born in Manchester, a heritage that he wore with pride throughout his life.

A long-time resident of Mt. Pleasant, Rev. Johnston, was not only known for his dedication to ministry but also for the simple pleasures he cherished. He found peace fishing and delight in reading, and he had a genuine gift for conversation. He relished the moments spent talking with people, sharing stories, and building meaningful connections.

Rev. Johnston’s legacy continues in the family who loved him dearly. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Virginia Evans Johnston, and by their three sons: Daniel Evanda Johnston, Jr. of Pahrump, NV, Stephen Alexander Johnston (Kim), and Paul Christopher Johnston, Sr. of Mt. Pleasant, SC. He was a loving grandfather to Amanda Renteria (Oscar) of Pahrump, NV; Erica Johnston of Pahrump, NV; Anna Taylor (Zach) of Walhalla, SC; Christopher Johnston, Jr. (Grayson) of James Island, SC; Nicolas Johnston (Hanna) of James Island, SC; and Benjamin Johnston (Julieanne) of James Island, SC. His legacy also includes six great-grandchildren: Jervey, Bowman, and Braylee Taylor, Ella Gray Johnston, Danny Wilde, and Parker Johnston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson Daniel Evanda Johnston, III, daughter-in-law, Lynne Johnston, and his siblings: Ina Johnston, Ernest Johnston, Edith Johnston, Earlene Johnston, Lillie Johnston Barwick, and Carnell Johnston.

He graduated from Edmunds High School, Sumter, SC, North Greenville Junior College, Carson-Newman College, TN, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, NC. He served as a Trustee at Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, North Greenville University, Charleston Southern University, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary where he served two years as Chairman of the Board.

He was pastor of Calvary, VA, Parksville, Modoc, New Market, Shiloh, Mount Pleasant First Baptist, Jonesville, Wando, North Charleston First Baptist, and King’s Bridge, in SC. He was Chaplain at the Aiken Youth Correction Center in Aiken, SC.

Rev. Johnston’s journey in faith defined his remarkable life. He was a devoted Southern Baptist and joyfully served as a pastor for over 63 years, pastoring many churches and shepherding countless congregations throughout his ministry. His love for the Lord and his passion for doing the Lord's work were the cornerstones of his existence, and serving as a Pastor was his greatest joy. He was always eager to share his wisdom, offer guidance, and bring comfort to others. His gentle nature, keen intellect, and unwavering faith touched the lives of all who knew him.

Rev. Daniel Evanda Johnston, Sr. will be long remembered for his unwavering dedication to his faith, his cherished relationships with family and friends, his love for missions and children, and his lifelong commitment to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in a celebration of his life and the tremendous legacy he leaves behind.
