Listen to Obituary

Renee Campbell Newman, 63, passed away December 9, 2025 after a nearly 6 year battle with pancreatic cancer. Renee graduated from Camden High School in 1980 and received her undergraduate degree from College of Charleston in 1984. She received her law degree from Tulane University and was Admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 1987. Renee was honored to serve as a law clerk for Judge Richard E. Fields in Charleston, SC prior to opening her private practice.

Along with her passion for law, Renee enjoyed all things nature. From birds to flowers to sunsets, she always found joy in the small things, a trait passed down to her from previous generations. Renee enjoyed traveling, reading and attending a wide range of sporting events including men’s and women’s ACC basketball tournaments, the Westminster Dog Show and Clemson and Wake Forest football games.

Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Terry J Frierson; children Stephen Campbell Newman, Austin Cooper Newman, and Eva Leland Newman; her mother Mildred Shaw Campbell; and her brother and sister-in-law Michael and Susie Campbell. She was predeceased by her father Alton Gardner Campbell.

The family would like to thank Dr. George Keogh of Charleston Oncology, Dr. Ryan Huey of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas and the entire team of Roper Hospice for their incredible care. We also offer much gratitude to the friends and neighbors who surrounded Renee with love and support.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Charleston Horticulture Society, 46 Windermere Blvd., Charleston, SC 29407.
