Rebekah Jane Davis Dempsey

April 23, 1945 — April 29, 2011

Rebekah (Becky) Davis Dempsey, age 66, of Hanahan, passed away at home with family and friends by her side on April 29, 2011 at 11:35 AM. Becky was born to the late Felix Charles Davis and Elizabeth Jackson Davis on April 23, 1945, in North Charleston. She grew up in Garco Village and graduated from North Charleston High School. She was the wife of Gene W. Dempsey.


She worked in the Banking Industry for 45 years, retiring in 2008 from First Citizens as an Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager of the Rivers Avenue Branch.


Throughout her life, Becky was active in her beloved North Charleston community. She served on the Noisette Project Committee. January 24, 2008 was proclaimed "Becky Dempsey Day" by North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey to honor Becky for her lifetime of service to the City of North Charleston.


She was a longtime member of North Charleston United Methodist Church.


Becky is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Gene W. Dempsey of Hanahan; step-sons: Michael S. Dempsey of Hanahan and Derrick Dempsey of Cocoa Beach, FL; grandsons: Kyle and Kevin Dempsey of Atlanta; brother: F. Charles Davis, Jr. of North Charleston. Also, her sisters-in-law: Judy K. Davis of Hanahan, Faye H. Davis of Mt. Pleasant, Jane S. Davis of Mt. Pleasant, Nancy Wiggins (George) of Goose Creek, and Geraldine Dempsey of James Island; her brothers-in-law: Jake Dempsey (Shirley) of Holly Hill and Robert Dempsey (Betty) of Branchville and numerous nieces and nephews.


Becky was predeceased by her parents and brothers Chad, Tony and Mendel Davis.


Visitation will be held in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road from 6:00 -8:00 pm on Sunday, May 1, 2011. Funeral services will be at North Charleston United Methodist Church on Monday, May 2nd at 11:00 AM with burial at Carolina Memorial Gardens.


Becky's family would like to thank Dr. Elizabeth Christian and her staff, as well as Karen and Crystal of Hospice Care of America, for their kindness and compassion throughout her long struggle with cancer.
