Rebecca Whitfield Sherwood

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rebecca (Becky) Whitfield Sherwood, a cherished mother and beloved community member, on January 11, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on February 9, 1943, in Tallahassee, Florida, Becky brought joy to everyone she encountered. She cherished a lifelong passion for teaching and service and, through this, she enriched the lives of countless students and community members. A memorial service will be held at Madison Presbyterian Church, 382 South Main Street, Madison, GA 30650 on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 1pm, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Madison Presbyterian Church in her honor.

Becky spent 45 years in Virginia Beach, where she not only inspired her students, she also served in various roles with her church. In 2008, she relocated to Madison, Georgia, spending her final 17 years immersed in the vibrant culture and warmth of the community she cherished dearly. Her contributions and commitment to education and civic engagement left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know her.

Becky is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Brewster Sherwood; her daughters, Amy Evins (David), Elizabeth Buske (Brian), and Rebecca Brewington (George); and her grandchildren, Catherine Evins, Caroline Brewington, and James Brewington. She is also survived by her sister, Jan Hughen, and her in-laws, Gail and Sid Cevarich, along with many nieces and nephews.

Becky's legacy is further marked by the memory of her late grandson, Andrew Evins, and her parents, along with her brother, Luke Daniel and his wife Candi Daniel. While her passing leaves a profound void in the lives of her family and friends, she will be remembered for her kindness, joy, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to the betterment of her community. Rebecca Whitfield Sherwood’s life was a testament to the power of education, love, and service, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
