Reavis Gray Davis

October 22, 1929 — May 18, 2013

Reavis Gray Davis, 83, of Mount Pleasant, SC, widow of Wayland Hassee Davis, entered into eternal rest Saturday, May 18, 2013. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2013, in St. Andrews Church, 440 Whilden Street, Mt. Pleasant, SC at 10:00 AM, followed by interment in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.

Mrs. Davis was born October 22, 1929, in Columbia, SC, daughter of the late Carlisle Brown Gray and Lewis Buchanan Gray. She graduated from Columbia High School and attended both Converse College and the College of Charleston. She spent most of her life in Mt. Pleasant and on Sullivan's Island, where she raised her six children. She was employed at the Charleston Navy Yard, First Federal Bank, and was a Branch Manager for South Carolina Federal in Mt. Pleasant.

Reavis was pre-deceased by her son, Lawrence Carlisle Davis and is survived by her children, Pat Davis and his wife Paula, Gail Davis Auld and her husband Fred, Carolyn Davis Stewart and her husband Mark, Lillian Davis Cooper, Hugh Davis and Terri; her grandchildren, Lisa Rix, Laura Geiger, Allison Bilodeau, Patrick Davis, Hamlin Auld, Davis Auld, Ashleigh Peyton, Mark Cooper, Meghan Davis, Rhett Cooper, and Lexi Stewart; and nine great-grandchildren.

She dearly loved her church, St. Andrews, in the Old Village and was very involved: playing the piano for Kindergarten, Sunday School classes, and the Junior Choir. Reavis was also on the Altar Guild, helped create the Seniors Program, and volunteered as church secretary. She adored being a part of Cursillo in Christianity and was involved with the East Cooper Ultreya. After completing the Alpha Course she took four years of Disciple. Reavis was a member of the "Salty Sisters" Life Group for six years.

Reavis was greatly involved in the Mount Pleasant Academy PTA during the 1950's and 1960's. An avid gardener, she belonged to the Alhambra Garden Club. As a member of the Alhambra Yacht Club, Reavis spent many hours playing bridge downstairs at Alhambra Hall. During the 1960's Reavis was one of the "Founders" of the modern Republican Party in the state of South Carolina. She employed her musical and organizational talents for seven years with the Charleston Opera Company.
