Raymond Arnold Scott, 70, of Pimlico Plantation near Moncks Corner, SC, passed away Wednesday, September 26 after several days' hospitalization. Ray was born May 15, 1942 in Charleston, W. Va., a son of the late Thomas Raymond Scott Jr. and Eva Mae Fisher Scott.
He graduated from Elkview High School in 1960, and spent time in Afghanistan and Italy as part of Send the Light, a Christian missions organization. It was in Afghanistan that Ray married his hometown sweetheart, Janet Harless, in 1964. The couple returned to Charleston, W.Va., where he graduated from Morris Harvey College in 1967, and where they raised two sons, Scotty and Craig. Ray was an entrepreneur and started several family-operated businesses. At the time of his death, he was the owner of driving schools in Charleston, SC; Charleston, W.Va.; and Chattanooga, TN. A devoted member of Church Creek Presbyterian Church (PCA), Ray was committed to seeing that everyone was personally welcomed to the worship service, even teaching a Sunday School class on how to make others feel welcome. He was well known to the children of the church as the man who gave them candy and invited families home for lunch. He loved the Scriptures and was a student of reformed doctrine. In 2011, Ray planned and organized Church Creek's first Reformation Conference, the second of which is scheduled for this October.
He is survived by Janet, his wife of 48 years; his son Raymond (Scotty) Scott of Chattanooga, TN; his granddaughter Chynna Scott of Proctorville, Ohio; and his brother and sister-in-law Russell and Lisa Scott of Elkview, W.Va. He was predeceased last December by his son Craig.
