Raymond Rosenblum

Entered into eternal rest on the morning of May 26, 2011, Raymond Rosenblum, M.D., husband of Sandra Lee Kahn Rosenblum.  Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Dr. and Mrs. Raymond Rosenblum are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, Friday, May 27, 2011 at 1:00 pm in Solomon Hall (Brith Sholom Beth Israel Synagogue), 182 Rutledge Avenue.  Interment, Brith Sholom Beth Israel Cemetery, "Maryville". Parking will be available in Stuhr's Downtown parking lot.


Dr. Rosenblum was born December 19, 1930 in Greenwood, SC, the son of Nuchum and Frieda Bain Rosenblum.  He received his undergraduate education at the University of South Carolina (1950) and his medical degree from the Medical College of South Carolina (1954).  Post-graduate training in Urology was completed at Milwaukee County Hospital, Milwaukee, WI; he also was a clinical instructor in surgery at Marquette University School of Medicine in Milwaukee, WI.  He served active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1961, at the U.S. Naval


Hospital, Great Lake, IL, with the rank of Lt. Cmdr. and as Assistant and Acting Chief of Urology.  He returned to Charleston to open his Urology Practice in 1961, where he practiced until his retirement in 1998.  Dr. Rosenblum was a Professor of Urology at the Medical University of South Carolina from 1965-1974, and sat on the Board of Trustees of Baker Hospital from 1970-1985, serving as Chairman of the Board from 1979-1985. He was a member of the American Board of Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  He also served as President of the Charleston County Medical Society and President of Brith Sholom Beth Israel Congregation.


Dr. Rosenblum was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He was renowned as a skilled surgeon, but achieved even greater acclaim for his unique sense of humor and booming and infectious laugh. 


He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandra Lee Kahn Rosenblum of Charleston, SC; his four children: Rachel Gutman (Howard) of Naples, FL, Fred Rosenblum and Kathy Rosenblum of Augusta, GA, Bruce Rosenblum(Suzanne) of Chevy Chase, MD, Elaine R. Mendels (Charles) of Atlanta, GA; one brother: Irvin Rosenblum of Boynton Beach, FL; nine grandchildren: Michael Gutman (Dana), Julie Davis (Aaron), Lori Gutman, (Jason Katzen), Amy Kate, Tracy, Joel, Danny, Ian Rosenblum, and Nelson Ray Mendels, all of whom Dr. Rosenblum left smiling. 


The family would like to thank his many caregivers of the past few years, especially EbonyJackson, Henry Goodwin, Erica Porter, Hope Wigfall and Laverne Gregory. 


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Roper St. Francis Foundation, Brith Sholom Beth Israel Synagogue, MUSC, Lutheran Hospice, Addlestone  Hebrew Academy or the charity of your choice.
