Ray was born in Landstuhl, Germany and grew up as an Army Brat living in Germany, Strasbourg France, Okinawa, Kansas, California, New Jersey, Virginia, Colorado, and Tehran, Iran. He was a graduate of Almeda University.
He joined the Army after high school, and they realized immediately how smart he was. The Army sent him to the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA where he was a multiple-graduate for Mandarin Chinese, and Korean languages (he spoke 7 languages) as well as the Foreign Services Institute's French language training program.
Ray served in Vietnam where he used his language abilities to interrogate people that had strayed too far from home. Of course, being fluent in Korean, they sent him to Korea.
He met and married his wife Jan right before the posting in Korea. From there he was stationed at Ft. Ord, CA where he had his first-born son, Raymond the fourth. From there, San Angelo, Texas, where he taught the voice-intercept operations at Goodfellow AFB. And then on to the Defense Intelligence Agency which started him on his embassy assignments, which included posts in Equatorial Guinea, where he was an Assistant Army Attaché . He was in support of the Defense Attaché Offices in Nigeria, Toyoko, Cameroon, and Finland.
Ray retired honorably from the Army after serving 21 years on July 31st, 1993, with his final assignment in support of the Defense Attaché Office, Helsinki, Finland.
Ray joined the civilian job market with CEXEC in 1995 where he helped bring in multi-million-dollar contracts through his strong relationship skills, then served as Vice President at CEXEC, and served as program manager for the FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure (FTI) Program, providing managerial oversight of both acquisition and financial support to one of the FAA's largest contracts.
Ray was a great leader, his people loved working with him, and he built life-long friendships with many of the people he worked with.
Ray was an avid golfer and over the years, had set up many golf tournaments. He enjoyed saltwater fishing, cooking for family and friends, and especially spending all his free time with his beautiful wife, Jan.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jan; two sons Raymond and Ryan; three granddaughters; one grandson; three brothers; and two sisters.
It is difficult to describe the richness and fullness of his life, the family he raised, the friends he made, the people he influenced, and the lives he changed. He lived a wonderful life, and the world is a better place because of him. Godspeed Ray!
