Raymond Joseph Franz, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Barbara Geigerman Franz passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2015. A Rite of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 in Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1149 Russell Drive. A private family interment will follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road.
Raymond was born October 1, 1931 in Biloxi, Mississippi, son of the late John Bernard Franz and Gertrude Zay Franz. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and went on to receive his M.B.A. degree from Tulane University. He was an Electrical Engineer with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC). Raymond was a parishioner at Christ Our King Catholic Church and had been a member of the Knights of Columbus. He coached youth baseball with the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department and was a proud member of the Football Chain Gang at Wando High School. Raymond loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer and fisherman. He also loved duck hunting in the years he lived in New Orleans. He came to love the lowcountry and enjoyed shrimping with his son-in-law, James Boren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Barbara Geigerman Franz of Mount Pleasant, SC; his children, Amanda Franz Boren and her husband James N. Boren of Asheville, NC, Raymond J. Franz, Jr. of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Natalie B. Franz of Mount Pleasant, SC; his sister, Bernardine F. Morgan of Mount Pleasant, SC; and his grandson, Lawrence Larson Lowe, Jr. He was preceded in death by his three brothers and two of his sisters.
