Raymond Charles Boop, 87, of Charleston, SC passed away on Friday, March 13. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of North Charleston. Burial with military honors will follow at the Carolina Memorial, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC. The family will receive visitors at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston, SC, Monday, March 16 at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
He was born December 16, 1927 and grew up in Mansfield, Ohio. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Raymond E. Boop. Ray located to Charleston where he met his devoted wife of 67 years, Rose Boop, at the USO.
He is survived by five daughters: LaPaula Solivan (and husband Bob), LaDonna Bolin (and husband Hal), Betty Mullins (and husband Tommy), Janet Jackson (and husband Frank), Robin Weidberg (and fianc'' Lonnie Nielson); sister, Betty Gottfried and her son, Steve Gottfried. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Ray worked as a salesman throughout the tri-county area. He proudly served as a Navy Veteran. Ray loved the Lord and his church family, First Baptist Church, North Charleston, where he served as a deacon, bible study teacher, and choir member. He was athletic and enjoyed long distance running in Charleston, coaching and playing church softball. He was an avid bicyclist, played senior league basketball and loved sharing a good joke. He was loved by many and leaves a legacy of serving and caring for others.
