Randel “Randy” McCoy | May 12, 1949 – July 8, 2025
With deep sorrow, the family of Randel “Randy” McCoy announces his passing in the early morning hours of July 8, 2025. After several years of declining health, a tragic accident on July 3 proved too great for his body to overcome.
Randy was born on May 12, 1949, in Pikeville, Kentucky, to Samuel Bud McCoy and Lori Blackburn. He grew up alongside seven brothers and one sister in a one-bedroom house on the side of a mountain, rich in spirit and humor. The McCoys proudly claimed their “upper crust” status thanks to their two-seater outhouse — a source of much family lore. Yes, if you’re wondering, they were the real McCoys.
Randy was a proud Air Force Veteran. He was preceded in death by siblings Billie Marie Ash, Fred, and Michael “Monk.” He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Vickie McCoy, affectionately known as his “Sweet Thang,” as well as his children Melissa Marie and Matthew Blake (Brett), and his cherished grandchildren Logan Blake and Addisyn Palmer McCoy. His surviving siblings include George, Danny, Sonny, and JD.
Randy and Vickie were married on October 9, 1971, in LaPorte, Indiana. After living in Columbia, South Carolina, for seven years, they made their home in Mount Pleasant, where they spent the past 45 years. Randy worked as a Maintenance Supervisor for various apartment communities in the area. A homebody at heart, he preferred to keep close to home and was famously reluctant to drive across a bridge.
He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, candid humor, deep love for his many friends and family, uncanny good luck, and his white mustache. Randy lived with a strong sense of loyalty, a healthy dose of caution — especially around water — and a heart full of concern for his loved ones, right up to his final day.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of Randy to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675, or to Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary, 5604 New Road, Hollywood, SC 29449.
A service will be held Sunday, July 13, 2025, at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd, at 3:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at Brickyard Plantation Clubhouse, 1100 Brickyard Parkway, Mt Pleasant, SC 29466.
