Randall "Randy" Gene Whetsell

Randall "Randy" Gene Whetsell, 66, Died Monday September 29, 2025. Born May 6, 1959 in Charleston South Carolina, He was the son of the late Herbert Hoover Whetsell and the late Mary Magdaline Smith Whetsell.

Randy loved spending time on the water, boating and fishing.  Randy was a self-taught mechanic specializing in watercraft and boat engines.

He could take apart a boat engine and immediately know what the problem is and fix it! He was a sought-after boat mechanic and spent over 40 years perfecting his craft as a boat engine mechanic. He was never without work as there was always a line of boats in his yard, whether it was a friend or from word of mouth. He was one of the good ones, the person who never met a stranger.

He was affectionately known as Uncle Dobie to his nieces and nephews and would go above and beyond when needed. Between helping with car troubles or just being there to celebrate birthdays and holidays, he always had a solution and just made the room light up with laughter. He will always be remembered and sadly missed.

Preceded in death by his sister, Sherri Arment of Manning, surviving is his sister, Ruth Holmes (Roy) of Manning; two brothers, Herb Whetsell (Patty) of Manning, Kenny Whetsell (Kerry) of Charleston; two nieces and five nephews; seven great nieces and nephews; four great-great nieces and nephews all of Charleston, and his beloved dog, Cardi.
