Ralph Reese Fitts, 91, of North Charleston, SC, husband of Mildred Marie Fitts died Sunday, October 21, 2012. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 24, 2012, with the visitation beginning at 12:00 pm and the funeral service at 2:00 pm, at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road. Interment will be held at Carolina Memorial Park.
Mr. Fitts was born December 20, 1920 in Brunson, SC, the last of nine children of the late Robert Raymond Fitts and the late Beulah Harley Fitts. He was the loving and caring husband of Marie Baird Fitts for 20 years. During WWII he was with the US Navy and served in the Philippines. After a brief time with the Navy Base of North Charleston he started a construction business that later became Fitts and Dandridge Construction, Inc. He continued to build residential and commercial buildings for 53 years, becoming well known and highly respected in the Greater Charleston area. The partners also owned four stores called Superior Hardware in North Charleston, Goose Creek, James Island and Red Top, SC.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Marie Fitts of North Charleston, SC, daughter Harriette Anne Watson (Mac-deceased) of Johns Island, SC; sons, Ronald R Fitts (Rett) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Robert "Bobby" Fitts (Marsha) of Pickens, SC and Donald Reed Fitts of Columbia, SC; grandchildren: Margaret "Maggie" Fitts of James Island, SC; Jami Fitts Hines (Jon) of Greenville, SC, Travis Fitts (Anne) of James Island, SC and their mother, Charlotte Fitts of Mt. Pleasant; Robert "Roby" Watson of Belmont, NC, Scott Watson of James Island, SC, and Bobbie Lee Martin of Tarboro, NC; great-grandsons, Robert Mac Watson III and Zachary Gary Watson both of Belmont, NC; great-grandson, Scott Allen Watson Jr. of Livingston, AL; great-granddaughter, Bella Reid Martin of Tarboro, NC; stepchildren: Diane Blocker (Michael) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Robert Nathan Baird (Christie) of Summerville, SC, David Michael Baird (Michele) of Murfreesboro, TN; step-grandchildren: Allison Blocker of Charleston, SC, Lauren Charpia (Bo) of Summerville, SC, Jena Baird of Summerville, SC, Jacqueline Baird of Ooltewah, TN, Brett Blocker of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Caitlin Baird and Cheldin Baird both of Murfreesboro, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews in the Charleston and Columbia area. He was preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy Godley Fitts, grandson, Reese Fitts, and his son-in-law, Robert Mac Watson.
