Ralph William Ervin III

Ralph William Ervin III, 76, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Nancy McDonald Ervin entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. The family will receive friends for reminiscing and celebrating his life on Wednesday April 23, 2025, at the Bulls Bay Golf Club, 995 Bulls Bay Drive, Awendaw, SC at 5 pm. The US Army will conduct Military Honors at 5:15 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.

Ralph was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and spent his youth in the local suburbs. After one year at Syracuse University, Ralph proudly enlisted in the United States Army and served in the special forces (Green Beret). He earned a rank of second lieutenant, infantry platoon leader in the Vietnam War. This experience shaped his character and deepened his commitment to service and discipline, values that he carried with him throughout his life. Following his service in the Vietnam War, Ralph earned his bachelor's degree from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. He went on to have a successful career as the Sales Manager for the Chemical Division of MeadWestvaco, where he traveled extensively in this position. His work ethic and professionalism earned him the deep respect of his colleagues and clients.

Ralph was an avid golfer. He grew up playing at Huntingdon Valley Country Club and was on Lafayette College’s golf team. It is no surprise that he instilled this love of golf in his children. Ralph was also known for his quick wit and his passion for writing, often reflecting upon politics.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Nancy McDonald Ervin. Together, they shared a life filled with joy and warmth, surrounded by their beloved family. He is survived by his children: Brook Ervin Sawyer of Coopersburg, PA with her children Cade and Haley; Tucker Ervin (Ann E.) of Mt. Pleasant, SC with their son Beckett; Tanner Ervin (Ashlie) of Mt. Pleasant with their children Reese and Miles; and Elizabeth Ervin of Mt. Pleasant with her son Elliot.

In addition to his immediate family, Ralph embraced his role as the father and grandfather by marriage to Nancy's children: Megan Uram Plauche (Michael) of New Orleans, LA with their daughter Iva Mac; Alan Uram (Meghan) of Charleston, SC, with their children Caroline, Grady, and Oliver; and Elizabeth Foster (Kile) of Bay St. Louis, MS with their children Elliot, Wade, and Letty.

Ralph is also remembered fondly by his siblings, Peter Ervin (Lorraine) of Abington, PA, and Suzanne Ervin Smith of North Wildwood, NJ, along with his brother-in-law, David Reese, and many adored nieces and nephews who cherished their time with him.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Elizabeth Reese Ervin, his brother Richard Ervin, and his parents, Ralph William Ervin, Jr., and Ann Kindig Ervin.

Ralph William Ervin III leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories, embodying love, laughter, and resilience. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
