CPO Ralph Arthur Dixon, USN (Ret.), 94, of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Catherine Carradus Dixon, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 27, 2013. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 1, 2013 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 10:00 am. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Ralph was born November 29, 1918 in Blaine, Maine, the eldest of seven children of George and Roxy Bubar Dixon. In 1936 he started employment with the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, ME and enlisted in the US Navy in 1939. In 1941, while assigned to the Brooklyn Navy Yard, he met the two greatest loves of his life - Catherine Carradus and the USS North Carolina. As a Plank Owner of the North Carolina, he served in the South Pacific during WWII. He returned to NYC in 1944 to marry his sweetheart who would be his wife for sixty seven years. Following retirement as a Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy, they settled in Charleston and would retire in 1976 from a second career with the Polaris Missile Facility Atlantic. Ralph was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, American Legion and the VFW. Ralph was an accomplished carpenter and cabinet maker who loved boating, fishing and his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Joan Strickland of Westerly, RI; son, David Dixon (Nancy) of Charleston; brother, Garnett Dixon of Exeter, NH; sister, Opal Smith of Lynn, MA; seven grandchildren, Brad Strickland, Ben Strickland, William Strickland, Kimberly Harkins, Beth Cleveland, Sarah Dixon and Ian Ford; nine great-grandchildren. Ralph is additionally survived by a sister-in-law Rose Carradus and a daughter-in-law Kitty Dixon both of Charleston, SC. He is predeceased by two sons, Ralph W. Dixon and James E. Dixon.
