Rachel Taggart Cole of Hanahan, SC, widow of Henry J. Cole, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ and her many family and friends on Wednesday afternoon at 1:48 PM.
She is the daughter of Joseph William Taggart and Mary Littlejohn McDowell Taggart of Philadelphia, PA, and was pre-deceased by her husband, Henry J. Cole. She is survived by her son, Rev. Paul Cole of Gettysburg, PA, and his wife Judy, and by her daughter, Phyllis Beach of Hanahan, SC, and her husband, Dr. Cecil Beach. Her delight in life was her family: nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church and the Young at Heart Sunday School Class there.
Everyone knew her as Marner. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, on April 13, 1914. She would have been 99 years old this April. She was the youngest of ten children: eight brothers and one sister. She worked as Registrar at the Philadelphia College of Bible in Philadelphia and earned her degree from PCB. She later worked as a housemother to many teenage girls at an orphanage in Shiremanstown, PA. Since the death of her husband Henry in 1982, Marner has lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Sumter, SC, and later in Hanahan, SC.
The viewing for family and friends will be at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, in North Charleston, SC 29406, Tuesday evening from 5:30 until 7:30. The funeral service will be held at Northside Baptist Church, 7800 Northside Drive in North Charleston, at 10:00 AM Wednesday morning. Interment will immediately follow at Carolina Memorial Cemetery.
