Quincy Patrick Brooks, Jr., 92, a lifelong resident of North Charleston, SC, husband of Russie Kathleen Thompson Brooks died Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at his home. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012 in the Cooper River Baptist Church, 1059 Crawford Street at 11:00 am. Interment with military honors will follow in Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTH AREA CHAPEL.
Mr. Brooks was born October 17, 1919 in North Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Quincy Patrick Brooks, Sr. and the late Cornelia Ellen Morgan Brooks. As a youngster he was the first Eagle Scout in North Charleston and at the age of 12 he built the first swimming pool in North Charleston (35ft x 13ft) and charged everyone 5 cents to swim. It took him a full year to build the pool. He attended Clemson then trained as a naval aviator with the start of WWII and transferred to the Coast Guard. He retired after 31 years of service as a marine surveyor with the Army Depot and was a Mason for 70 years with the Hammerton Lodge.Quincy worked with the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Explorers. He was a charter member of Cooper River Baptist Church, an avid photographer and camper. He also designed and built boats.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Russie T. Brooks of North Charleston, SC, daughter, Barbara B. Still (William) of Hanahan; 2 sons: Randolph M. Brooks (Debora) of Lexington, SC and Ronald P. Brooks (Karen) of North Charleston, SC; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by three sisters.
