Portia Ann Pukl Wood Phillips

February 16, 1941 — December 1, 2016

Portia Ann Pukl Wood Phillips, age 75 of Johns Island, SC, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016, peacefully in her home. A Celebration of Life will be held, Saturday December 17, 2016, at 11 a.m at Seacoast Church West Ashley Campus, 2049 Savannah Hwy, Charleston, SC 29407. Inurnment will take place in the spring of 2017 at Arlington National Cemetery.

Portia was born in Meadowbrook, PA to the late Frank J Pukl and Lois L McClintock Pukl on February 16, 1941. She attended South Union High School in Uniontown, PA. In 1987, she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from California University of Pennsylvania. She was a teacher in Charleston County Schools for nearly 20 years. She was an active member and volunteer at Seacoast Church Johns Island Campus, and Seacoast Church West Ashley food bank. Friends and family were a passion of Portia's and her dedication to her Lord and Savior was an inspiration to all she knew.

Portia is survived by husband Kenneth W. Phillips of Johns Island, SC; her brother, Richard W. and wife Marcia L Pukl of Uniontown, PA; her son, LTC Dean W. and wife Midori Wood of Honolulu, Hawaii; daughters, Robin A. Wood and husband William Spillias of Tallahassee, FL and Rachel L. Wood and husband Daniel Sloan of St. Leonard, MD; stepson, Cmdr. Scott K and wife Anneta Phillips of Beltsville, MD; grandsons, Zachary and Hunter Sloan, and granddaughters Gabriella Spillias and Tabitha Phillips; niece Amy Pukl; nephew Joshua and wife Shannon Pukl; numerous close relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her brother, Frank J Pukl, III and her infant daughter, Rebecca L. Wood.

The family wishes to thank all of those who lovingly cared and prayed for Portia during her brave battle with ovarian cancer for over seven years.
