Phyllis Corson Walker

July 9, 1917 — July 27, 2010

Entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of July 27, 2010, Phyllis Corson Walker, loving wife of Lawrence A. Walker.  Residence, Charleston, SC.  All services will be private. The family will receive friends at the residence, 57 Laurens Street, Friday between five and seven o'clock.


Mrs. Walker was born July 9, 1917 in San Mateo, California, the daughter of Clarence Lysander Corson and Lillian Edna Hansen Corson.


She grew up in the San Francisco Bay area and graduated from Leland B. Stanford, Jr. University, where she acted in theatrical productions. After college she worked for several years in the fashion industry. She met her husband, who was a naval officer, during World War II and they were married in 1943.  After the war, they lived in Summerville and later in Charleston.  For many years she worked as a volunteer at the Gibbes Museum of art and served on the board of the Carolina Art Association.


She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years;  three children: Stephen L. Walker (Mary) of Johns Island, SC, Phyllis W. Ewing of Charleston, SC and G. Trenholm Walker (Susan) of Charleston, SC; two grandchildren: James G.B. Ewing, IV and Stephanie T. Ewing.


Memorials may be made to Coastal Community Foundation, 90 Mary Street, Charleston, SC 29403 or to the charity of one's choice.
