Phyllis Capachietti Cordina, 92, of North Charleston, South Carolina, widow of John E. Cordina peacefully entered into eternal rest Thursday, May 25, 2017, in Columbia, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway. Her Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. John's Catholic Church, 3921 Saint John's Ave., North Charleston at 12:00 p.m. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Phyllis was born September 30,1924 in Everett, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Louis and Christine Capachietti. In the early years, Phyllis worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston with war bonds and also organized the young ladies from the Bank to attend the USO Dances in Boston in the 1940's.She was retired from the Charleston Naval Supply Center with 25 years of service working in accounting.
She was very active at St. John's Catholic Church, a member of the Church Choir, Ladies Guild, helping in the Church Office, and helping with the Ordinations of the Seminarians of the Diocese of Charleston. Phyllis enjoyed Bridge Club, the Italian American Club, playing the organ, dancing, traveling, boating, cookouts, and was a talented seamstress. She loved family times, friends, cooking Italian meals, baking, and enjoyed life to the fullest.
Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother who will be deeply missed.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Janet C. Brown (Daniel) of Irmo, SC; two sons, Louis J. Cordina (Evelyn) of Mount Pleasant, SC; John E. Cordina of Johns Island, SC; four grandchildren, Jessica Reece, Ryan Black, Isabella Cordina, Evan Cordina; two great grandchildren, Rose Duncan, Carolina Black and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five Capachietti brothers, Anthony, Carmen, Albert, Ernest, Joseph and four sisters, Ida Cannatelli, Dora Teneriello, Beatrice Aiesi, and Grace Cordina.
