Philip Edward Cook

Philip Edward Cook, 79, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Marilyn Carlson Cook, entered into eternal rest Saturday, March 8, 2025. His Memorial Service will be held May 10, 2025 at Crosstowne Christian Church, 1941 Bees Ferry Rd, at 10:00 am. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.

Philip was born May 11, 1945 in Freeport, Illinois, son of the late Robert E. Cook and Ruth Bartel Cook. Philip was a naturally gifted athlete and the star player on his high school basketball team, receiving the Keith Miller Memorial Award. He graduated Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in business management and psychology. He continued his education in business at Nebraska University and the University of Michigan.

Philip was a United States Army veteran, serving in Germany with the military police. He retired after 40 years working in Organizational Development/Human Resources Consulting and Executive/Leadership Coaching. His career included working for Square D, Cummins Engine Inc., as well as starting his very own consulting firm.

Philip was committed to promoting literacy. His extensive volunteer work included a focus on early childhood literacy groups; working with economically challenged children from kindergarten to first grade through the Rotary Club of West Ashley and Reading Partners. He also worked with Roper St. Francis in the Cancer Center and PACU where he volunteered for 13 years.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by daughter, Kristyn L. Thompson (Steven) of James Island, SC; two granddaughters, Kaitlyn E. Thompson, Madelyn H. Thompson; and two brothers, William G. Cook of Milwaukee, WI, Douglas A. Cook (Lynne) of Clifton, VA.

He was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Jan Cook.
