Philip John Conlon, Jr., 86, of Hollywood, South Carolina, husband of Barbara Gayle Conlon, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church, 6275 Donaldson Street at 12:00 pm. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
Philip was born April 14, 1939, in Charleston, South Carolina, son of Philip John Conlon, Sr. and Eva Brown Conlon. He grew up learning to weld at his family business, Conlon Welding Company. He created and repaired many beautiful ironworks that can be seen all across the city. He was an industrial electrician at Westvaco for 52 years. He also served as a Reserve Captain for the City of Charleston Police Department. In his 52 years of service, he trained and supervised over 200 reserve officers. He cherished time with family and found great joy and solace in hiking the Blue Ridge Mountains. He was an avid gun collector, poet, and reader. He faithfully served as an usher at Calvary Baptist Church for many years and, on November 10, 2024, was baptized as a public testament of his faith in the Lord. Philip’s legacy is defined by his steadfast work ethic, his gift of intentional listening, his ability to solve any problem with his hands, and his unwavering care for family, friends, and community.
Along with his loving wife of 28 years, Philip is survived by his daughters: Sandra Campbell (Mike); Christine McAnany, Kathleen Bokern (Michael); grandchildren: Michael Campbell (Ashley), Jonathan Heyward, Rachel Morrow (Bobby), Joshua Bokern, Jacob Bokern, Dakota Milner (Kat); 9 great-grandchildren; sister: Celeste Conlon; stepsons: Timothy Sharpton (Melody), Kip Sharpton, Andy Sharpton (Josie); 7 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 siblings, and a stepson.
