Peter G. Morfesis of Charleston, SC entered into eternal rest on November 27, 2011. The relatives and friends of Peter G. Morfesis are invited to attend his funeral service, Friday, December 2, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity. Interment will follow at Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service.
The son of Zaharati and George P. Morfesis of Pennsauken, NJ, he was married to the former Lucia Manos for 51 Years. He is survived by daughters: Zaharati Jackie Morfesis, Emelia Fredrica Di Carlo (Joseph) and grandchildren: Eleni Rose, Joseph George and Andriana Virgina, all of New Jersey. He is also survived by three brothers: Spero, Dennis and James Morfesis.
Peter was a life member of the University of Mississippi Alumni Association, a member of St. Alban Lodge No. 529 F. and A. M., Philadelphia, PA and Mariner Lodge #2 A.F. M., Charleston County. He was a past president of the Camden, NJ AHEPA, past commander of the American Legion, Merchantville, NJ. He was a member of the following Greek Orthodox Churches: St. Thomas in Cherry Hill, NJ, Cathedral of St. George, Philadelphia, PA and the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Charleston, SC. Peter was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War.
Peter's family is five generations from the Island of Ithaca, Greece. His wife Lucia's grandmother was named Ithaki.
Peter was very involved in the Greek American community. He owned a restaurant and retired as the executive chef of Rancocas Hospital where he gave cooking classes and cooked for their designer show house homes affairs.
He was well loved and will be sadly missed. He was also a member of the Charleston Elks Lodge #242 and Azalea Chapter 192 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Peter was a Mason for 61 years.
Memorials would be appreciated for the Greek School and Sunday School Fund of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race Street, Charleston, SC 29403.
